Mr Harlin Knoll `r Environmental
4 March 1998 Resources
Page 2 Management
UST#1, and will submit them to An/En laboratory for analysis for Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons {TPH} as Gasoline by EPA Method 8015M and
for BTEX and MTBE compounds by EPA Method 8020 Samples will not
be analyzed for TPH as Diesel Fuel, as it was not detected in any of the
previous sidewall soil and groundwater samples collected from the
excavations Samples will not be analyzed for total lead, as lead was not
detected above background levels in any of the previous samples
Concrete adjacent to the existing excavation for UST#2 will be sawcut
and removed Approximately 3,000 gallons of groundwater will be
pumped from the excavation ERM will overexcavate an additional three
feet laterally on the east side of the excavation Due to the presence of
utilities and proximity to the building wall, ERM will overexcavate two
feet laterally on the west side of the excavation In addition, a small pit
near the center of the excavation will be dug to a total depth of ten feet
below ground surface to permit collection of a bottom soil sample
ERM will collect two new sidewall soil samples, one bottom soil sample,
and one new groundwater sample from the excavation for UST#2 and
will submit them to An/En laboratory for analysis for TPH as Gasoline
and BTEX/MTBE Samples will not be analyzed for TPH as Diesel Fuel
or for total lead for the reasons outlined above
In view of the desire of both Heinz and the new property owner to
rapidly gain approval to close these USTs, ERM proposes to conduct
additional excavation and dewatering work on an accelerated schedule
All laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater samples will be
conducted on a 24-hour turnaround basis ERM will commence the
additional overexcavation and dewatering work outlined above on
Thursday, 5 March 1998 We expect that this additional excavation work
will require 2 days, and expect to receive input from the County by the
middle of the following week as to whether or not the USTs can be
closed
