Excavation Pit Sampling <br /> Following the removal and disposal of each of the USTs, ERM will collect <br /> soil and/or ground water samples from below the tanks as directed by <br /> SJC It is anticipated that one soil sample will be collected from directly <br /> below the 500-gallon UST and submitted for laboratory analysis Due to <br /> the shallow ground water (approximately 7 feet below ground surface), <br /> two soil samples will be collected from the sidewalls of the 3,000-gallon <br /> UST excavation Following collection of the soil samples, a ground water <br /> grab sample will be collected from the 3,000-gallon UST excavation and <br /> submitted for laboratory analysis The bottom of the 500 gallon UST pit <br /> will be overexcavated an additional two feet m order to facilitate ground <br /> water collection and a ground water grab sample will be collected from <br /> this pit <br /> If the results of the excavation pit soil samples indicate that impacted soils <br /> are present in either of the excavation pits, the contractor will <br /> overexcavate each pit as required to remove the impacted soils <br /> Following overexcavation of the tank pits, ERM will collect and analyze a <br /> soil sample from the sidewalls of each excavation Upon removal of 3,000 <br /> gallons of ground water from the tank pits, ERM will collect and analyze <br /> an additional ground water grab sample from each tank pit to determine <br /> effectiveness of ground water removal <br /> In order to ensure all ground water is properly treated prior to discharge <br /> to the facility industrial sewer system, a treated water sample will be <br /> collected from the discharge stream of each activated carbon treatment <br /> system <br /> A summary of the soil and ground water samples to be collected during <br /> the tank removal activities is presented below <br /> Sample Descn tion Quantity EPA Analysis Methods <br /> Soil sample from below 500-gallon 1 8015M (Gasoline&Diesel),8020, <br /> UST 7420 <br /> Sidewall samples from 3,000-gallon 2 8015M(Gasolene &Diesel),8020, <br /> UST 7420 <br /> Ground water samples from below 2 8015M(Gasoline&Diesel),8020, <br /> USTs 7420 <br /> Son]samples from overexcavation 8 8015M(Gasoline&Diesel),8020, <br /> sidewalls 7420 <br /> Post-dewatering ground water 2 8015M (Gasoline& Diesel),8020, <br /> samples 7420 <br /> Soil samples from stockpiles for 2 8015M (Gasoline&Diesel),8020, <br /> waste disposal profiling LUFT Metals 6010/7000 <br /> 4-2 <br />
