f <br /> i SECTION 1 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> This workplan has been prepared on behalf of Heinz, USA to address the <br /> removal of two Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) at their tomato food <br /> products facility in Tracy, California <br /> Work consists of the removal and disposal of one 500-gallon UST and one <br /> 3000-gallon UST as well as the removal and disposal of impacted soil and <br /> ground water in the vicinity of each tank and backfill of the excavations <br /> with clean overburden material and imported backfill as required <br /> This workplan is being submitted to San Joaquin County (SJC) for review <br /> and approval prior to initiating remediation activities at the site <br /> • Site History <br /> The Heinz Tracy Facility is located at 757 Eleventh Street, near the <br /> southeast corner of the intersection of Eleventh Street and MacArthur <br /> Drive, in Tracy, California A site location map for the facility is included <br /> in Figure 1 The facility covers a total of 73 5 acres with 17 acres under <br /> roof The Heinz facility has produced tomato food products, including <br /> ketchup and tomato paste, since its construction in 1946 Currently the <br /> facility is in limited production and Heinz plans to decommission <br /> operations in the near future <br /> ERM submitted a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) report for <br /> the subject site on August 25, 1997 The ESA identified the possible <br /> existence of two gasoline USTs that had been abandoned in place ERM <br /> then performed a Phase lI ESA to determine if the tanks had become <br /> sources of subsurface soil and ground water contamination Analytical <br /> results of shallow soil and ground water samples indicated that <br /> concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons are present in soil and ground <br /> water in the vicinity of the two USTs <br /> i <br /> I <br /> 1-1 <br />
