The purpose of the slug tests will be to
determine the average hydraulic conductivity of the saturated geologic
materials comprising the aquifer penetrated by the wells, underlying the
facility. The objective for conducting the slug tests will be to calculate the
average transmissivity of the aquifer for use as an engineering design
parameter in the development of a possible ground water recovery/treatment
system. Exceltech will use the method of Bouwer and Rice (1976) to
determine the average hydraulic conductivity of the, aquifer, The slug tests
will be conducted by either completely or partially submerging a solid mass
(slug) below the ground water surface in each well, and instantaneously
removing the slug after ground water levels in the well being tested have
achieved equilibrium in response to submerging the slug. The resulting rate
of rise of the ground water surface in the well being tested will be measured
utilizing a downhole pressure transducer coupled to an electronic
progammable data collection unit at ground surface. Input from the
transducer to the data collection unit will then be transferred to an IBM
compatible PC for manipulation by computer software to generate
logarithmic plots of recovering ground water levels (increasing heads)
versus elapsed time (following removal of the slug). Information derived
from each plot, combined with the physical dimensions of the well tested,
will be incorporated into the Bouwer and Rice equation for determining the
hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer within the effective radius of the well
tested.
Task 10: Survefng
For the presentation of the data and the accurate determination of the ground
water flow direction, it is important to locate the monitoring wells and
determine the surface elevations of the well casings. Exceltech proposes to
survey the monitoring wells and draft plot plans. The survey will be
conducted using modern surveying equipment and methods so that adequate
