J. H...LEI N FELDER & ASSOC.,ATES
GEOTECHNICAL CONSULTANTS • MATERIALS TESTING
LAND & WATER RESOURCES
2825 EAST MYRTLE STREET
STOCKTON, CA 95205-4794
(209) 948-1345
File No. E-2688-1
June 12, 1985
Woolsey Oil, Inc.
166 Frank West Circle
Stockton, California 95206
At'Lention: Mr. Bruce Woolsey
Subject: INSTALLATION OF MONITORING WELL
AND HYDROCARBON TESTS
ROBERTS OIL COMPANYMODI, CA
Gentlemen:
As per your request, our firm drilled and installed one monitoring well at
the subject site. The scope of our work was as follows:
1. Obtain necessary county permits for monitoring well
construction.
2. Drill, obtain soil samples and install a 2 -inch diameter
monitoring well.
3. Have the soil samples analyzed for hydrocarbons.
4. Obtain water samples from the well for hydrocarbon testing.
On May 15, 1985, our personnel obtained an application for a permit from
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for the installation of a
monitoring well at the above subject site. A drilling crew and field engineer
from our firm then traveled to the site and drilled, obtained soil samples and
installed a monitoring well at a location chosen by your representative. The
well was located in an area adjacent to three above -ground storage tanks used to
store motor fuels. Surface soil staining in the general area where the well was
installed would indicate that some product spillage had occurred at one time.
The monitoring well was drilled and installed to a total depth of 46.5 feet
below ground surface. Free groundwater was encountered at approximately 37 feet
below ground surface. The wells were constructed using 2 -inch diameter PVC
casing with the bottom 15 feet of the casing being machine slotted. The annular
space was backfilled with sand to approximately 2 feet above the slotted por-
tion. A 1 -foot bentonite pellet seal was then placed above the sand with the
remainder of the annular space backfilled to the surface with concrete. A
concrete utility box was then cemented into place for surface protection of the
well head.
OTHER OFFICES:
Walnut Creek •San Ramon •Sacramento •Fresno •Fairfield • Merced • Rohnert Park •Los Angeles •Reno •Las Vegas • St. George, Utah •Denver 1 n
