23 June 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0349
3.2. SOIL LOGGING _
Soil was extruded from the remaining brass sleeves and screened for the presence of organic vapor
using an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID:
Lot Thermo Environmental 580A,L 10.0 eV)calibrated to isobutylerie. The readings were recorded on the
Boring Log. The soil was described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. A
vertical soil profile is depicted in Appendix A.
two 3.3. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
A grab ground water sample was collected from probe boring;IPB 1 at a depth of 65 feet bsg, using
WW a Geoprobe water sampling assembly.Probe rods were extended into ground water, then pulled back
to expose a water sampler screened interval. Ground water was'allowed to enter the sampler, and the
sample was retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bailer.
After sample retrieval, the sampler-was disassembled and cleaned. New PVC tubing was used for
the sample. -The sample was collected into 40-m1 EPA-approved vials containing 0.5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid for sample preservation and 1-liter amber'bottle. The sample was placed in a
chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF---SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Uw
Selected soil samples and the ground water sample were analyzed in accordance with EPA Method
t 5030/8015-M for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g/d), and in
accordance with EPA Method 8020/602 for volatile aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and
xylenes: BTE&X) and methyl tertiary butyl_ether-(MTBE). The grab water sample collected from
boring P 1 and the soil sample collected from P 1 at 20 feet bsg were-analyzed by EPA method 8260m
.and 8240.
tao 3.5. WELL SURVEY
A well survey was conducted'to gather information regarding the location and use of municipal and
domestic wells within 2,000 feet of the site. Well survey sources include California Water Service
well survey, City of Stockton Well Survey and San Joaquin County Flood Control District and
Water Conservation District(FCD&WCD).
{
taw
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
fr
