Mr. Ken Price • - 4 - • 14 June 2004
MSRM needs to provide a Cleanup Plan that outlines maintenance tasks and schedules, diagrams the
placement of existing trees, identifies any replacement or supplemental plantings needed, estimates when
supplemental irrigation will be removed, and provides a Contingency Plan. The Contingency Plan
should identify what criteria will identify if the phytoremediation is not providing hydraulic control of
the plume, whether groundwater constituents are not being remediated, and what alternative remedial
strategy should be implemented if the phytoremediation is not performing to expectations. In a 10 June
2004 conversation with Mr. Tim Souther of Geomatrix Consultants, he stated that the development of a
Contingency Plan would entail reviewing third quarter sample results, developing statistical procedures
to identify an exceedance threshold, and working with the responsible parties to develop a suitable
remediation alternative. Therefore, please submit the Cleanup Plan with the associated Contingency
Plan by 15 October 2004.
Thank you for removing the core of the soil source area and proposing reasonable groundwater
remediati alternatives. If you have any questions, you may contact me at(916) 464-4680.
AMY RRELL
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
cc: Mr. Michael Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Mr. Alan Prouty, J.R.
