A cLa
garpn
'OAR u ? 1995
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CORPORATION PERMIT/SERVICES
March 6, 1995
Ms. Margaret Lagorio, R.E.H.S.
Lead Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County, Public Health Services
445 N. San Joaquin Street
Stockton, California 95201
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
WORKPLAN TO ABANDON MONITORING WELLS AT NEW HOLLAND SITE
LOCATED AT 2150 W. CHARTER WAY, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
McLaren/Hart has prepared this workplan to abandon five monitoring wells at the above
referenced site. This well abandonment workplan has been prepared in response to an April
11, 1994 letter from San Joaquin County Public Health Service (SJCPHS) requesting that
the monitoring wells be destroyed. Upon completion of this task, final site closure from
SJCPHS may be obtained for the facility. The proposed scope of work for well
abandonment is presented below. A well destruction permit and $60 permit fee is included
with this workplan.
Scope of Work
Five monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-5) will be abandoned at the New Holland site.
The wells are constructed with 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC casing within an 8-inch
diameter borehole. A copy of the detailed well logs can be found in Attachment A.
McLaren/Hart proposes to abandon the monitoring wells at the New Holland site by drilling
out the well boreholes. Prior to abandoning the wells, the steel vault boxes for the wells
will be removed. The wells will be drilled out using a hollow stem auger drill rig with fl-
inch outside diameter augers in order to remove all the material present in the original
borehole. The borehole will then be filled with neat cement grout (consisting of 95%
cement and 5 % bentonite). All of the material removed (including filter pack material,
well casing, etc.) will be disposed of at the Forward, Inc. landfill in Stockton, California as
rc95503 8:NwHoll\01.0013217.000
3.6.95
11101 White Rock Road, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 (916)638-3696 FAX(916)638-2842
40 papw
