The samples were transported under standard chain of custody procedures to
' the California certified laboratory for analysis; Agriculture and Priority Pollutants Laboratories,
Inc. (APPL) in Fresno, California. Each sample was analyzed for the following constituents:
' organophosphate pesticides (EPA 8141); organochlorine pesticides (EPA 8081); total
petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA 8015M); heavy metals (EPA 6010/7040); total Kjeldahl nitrogen
' (TKN) (EPA 351.2M); and ammoniacal nitrogen (AN) (EPA 350.1). A copy of the analytical
results is included in Appendix A.
' The laboratory analytical results were non-detectable for organophosphate, organochlorine, and
total petroleum hydrocarbons (Table 1). Heavy metals were within published background
' ranges (Table 2) (Bradford, et al, 1996). TKN and AN were detected at elevated
concentrations. TKN concentrations ranged from 15,600 mg/kg to 30,300 mg/kg. AN
concentrations ranged from 5,310 mg/kg to 15,000 mg/kg.
' 5.0 WORK PLAN
During telephone discussions with the EHD, Mr. Doug Wilson requested that a site assessment
' work plan (a sample analysis plan) and a health and safety plan be submitted to the EHD to
evaluate the potential lateral and vertical migration of TKN and AN in the areas where the
former bulk liquid fertilizer tank farm structures were located.
' The three former bulk liquid fertilizer tank farms were located in the northwest corner of the
' facility. Tank farm No. 1 was a structure of approximately 17 by 58 feet, laid out in a north-
south orientation, and located approximately 10 feet east of the facility fence line along Tillie
' Lewis Drive, approximately 10 feet south of the No. 2 tank farm, in the northwest corner of the
site. Tank farm No. 2 was a structure of approximately 17 by 39 feet, laid out in an east-west
' orientation, and located approximately 13 feet south of the north fence line and approximately
10 feed east of the west fence line. Tank farm No. 3 was a structure approximately 29 feet by
17 feet, also laid out in an east-west orientation, was approximately 6 feet east of Tank farm
' No. 2, and was located approximately 13 feet south of the north fence line. All three structures
were constructed of wood framework and walls, with a synthetic rubber/plastic liner covering
t the floor and walls of the tank farms. The former Tank Farm No. 1 tanks contained UN-32,
CAN-17, CA-12, 0-0-21 liquid fertilizers, No. 2 tanks contained Tracite 10% LF Zinc, 0-0-15,
' \\fr2Weptdem\PROJECI\C5193\5193.001\5193.001-SAWP.da 3
