Wendy Cohen, CVRWQCB-SLIC Unit page 2
RE: Hess-Dubois Dry Cleaners
Table 2 of the enclosed quarterly monitoring report listed TPH-ss at 1,500 ug/I for MW-
10 but the laboratory data sheets identified this detection as Gasoline Range Organics.
This reporting detail was repeated for MW-6 in the same table. A discussion with the
consultant indicated that the similarities of these detections resemble a gasoline pattern
slightly more than they do Stoddard solvent. A UST site one block down gradient of this
dry cleaner site will be undergoing a groundwater investigation soon.
On March 29, 2002, EHD approved the February 12, 2002 work plan to install up to ten-
paired CPT borings offsite and down gradient of the site.
On June 5, 2002, the SWRCB Cleanup Fund denied reimbursement for this EHD
approved work stating, "Corrective action costs associated with chlorinated solvents are
not eligible for reimbursement from the Fund— only assessment and remediation of
stoddard solvent contamination is eligible."
EHD has discussed this site with Marty Hartzell in the UST Unit of the CVRWQCB and
his recommendation was to forward the most current quarterly report to you with a
request for the SLIC unit to oversee the investigation and cleanup of this Dry Cleaner/
solvent impacted groundwater site.
Please provide your comments to Michael Infurna at (209) 468-3454 should you have
any concerns and when you have made your decision.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Michael Infurna Jr., Senior REHS Margaret Lagorio, REHS
LOP / Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
MI/
Enclosures (to addressee only)
c: Peter Wallace — 7455 Pasaro Dr, Scottsdale, A.Z. 85262
c: AGE — Bill Little, 837 Shaw Rd, Stockton, CA. 95215.
c: CVRWQCB — Mary Hartzell, Sacramento.
c: SWRCB-CUF - Mark Owens, Sacramento.
