(AGE). The Report provides the
analytical results from the groundwater monitoring event conducted 9 September 2008 at your site.
Depth to water varied from 53 to 65 feet below ground surface. The downgradient groundwater
direction was towards the south at a varying gradient of 0.002 ft/ft (onsite) to 0.004 ft/ft (offsite).
Maximum groundwater concentrations in micrograms per Liter (ug/L) were reported in offsite
monitoring well MW-9 as Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline, 3,000 ug/L; ethylbenzene,
5.8 ug/L; and xylenes, 13 ug/L. The Report states the ozone injection system, which was suspended
temporarily in January 2007 for a rebound test and restarted in April 2007 due to significant rebound in
concentrations onsite and in MW-9 offsite, has continued to be effective for reductions in
concentrations for constituents of concern onsite. The Report recommends continued groundwater
monitoring under CAO No. 93-701, continued operations of the ozone injection system, and
preparation of a workplan to inject Oxygen Releasing Compound@ (ORC) into the aquifer around
offsite MW-9, to address residual TPHg in groundwater.
Please submit a workplan to address the residual petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater near offsite
MW-9. The workplan shall include the location/depth/quantity of ORC for each injection point, a
schedule for implementing the fieldwork, any additional monitoring needed to track the ORC
effectiveness or any adverse effects of the injection, a proposal to stop the ozone injection treatment
system while evaluating the effectiveness of the ORC, a contingency plan to restart the ozone
treatment system if contaminants rebound onsite or offsite, and a schedule for the report.
