April 1, 1994
June 1, 1994
September 1, 1994
December 1, 1994
March 1, 1995
September 1, 1995
We propose to focus our initial monitoring in an area where soil conditions
are least favorable for rapid bacterial migration. We recommend the area
near VW-1, which is located near the former UST site, and where a thick bed
of silty clay between 25 and 40 feet is highly contaminated. Monitoring of the
rate of remediation in this area should provide a 'lower limit" estimate for
site remediation. Subsequent drilling will provide confirmatory data in areas
not previously monitored.
A minimum of two soil borings will be drilled during each "progress"
monitoring. Selected soil samples will be analyzed for gasoline constituents,
bacteria numbers and types and, for the initial soil boring(s) (April 1994), an
agricultural analysis. After September 1, 1995, the monitoring program can
be re-evaluated.
B. Vapor monitoring: Twice each month for the first six (6) months, monthly
thereafter. Each monitoring and vapor (or remediation well) should be
monitored for hydrocarbon vapors (using a PID) and CO2 and OZ (using the
GasTech 3252 or similar unit). We do not believe there is a need to monitor
for methane or nitrogen.
GeoAudit does not recommend the installation of additional vapor
monitoring points or grid before start-up of the remediation. We believe the
present array of 15 monitoring and remediation wells will be adequate for
initial evaluation of the monitoring point density. After two months of
monitoring, GeoAudit will re-evaluate the density and install additional
monitoring wells if needed. A work plan for soil borings and, if necessary,
vapor wells, is attached.
C. Groundwater Monitoring: Monthly for the first six (6) months; quarterly
thereafter. The wells to be monitored should follow the categories in the C
& A order.
The monthly groundwater samples should be analyzed for bacteria
populations, pH, temperature, EC, dissolved oxygen, TPH and BTE&X.
We anticipate inoculating the soil and groundwater plumes as soon as a Waiver of Waste
Discharge Requirements is adopted by the Board in January of 1994. We have tentatively
O 1,"I A.&hnifu.Inc 4
