Boll
Senior Engineer Area Engineer
DATE: 10 December 1986 SIGNATURE:ar. `
SUBJECT: GEWEKE FORD CARE LOT - 6 NOVEMBER 1986 MEETING
This site is a former Gas-N-Save gasoline station in Lodi near the corner of Oak
Street and Cherokee Lane. Four tanks (1-1,000 gallon waste oil tank, 2-1,000
gallon and 1-6,000 gallon gasoline tank) have been removed and a site investi-
gation was requested by the County. Soil and ground water contaminates were
found under the old pump station and the gasoline tanks. There are no domestic
wells in the immediate area that were found to be in use.
The meeting was held at the request of Brown & Caldwell (B&C), who were hired by
Geweke to conduct the investigation and cleanup. B&C is still convinced that
there is a possible off-site source of contamination from some unknown source.
B&C, therefore, recommends no cleanup action be taken until further investiga-
tion be completed. B&C will be looking at some information from Beacon Gas,
which is a couple of blacks away from the site, to help determine ground water
gradient and is also suggesting that one or two more monitoring wells be placed
upgradient of the contamination. Based on the data gathered so far we are
convinced that the source of contamination is from the old pump station and
underground tanks. We informed B&C that the Geweke Lot will need to be cleaned
up by Geweke, and that some action needs to be taken soon.
B&C will submit a letter, by 12 December 1986, to inform us of their findings
and give us a time schedule of their actions for cleanup. B&C estimated cost
of cleanup will be about $100,000.
We also discussed the possibility that the existing monitoring wells will not be
usable since the lot and wells were paved over by Geweke's contractor. B&C was
,just as surprised as we were when they found about the paving operation. They
are planning an inspection of the wells next week. If the wells are inoperable,
then new wells will have to be drilled.
Attachment
SSB:,jj
