13 December 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0109
remediation progress and provide information for modifications to an existing system or treatment
method. It does not appear that the soil vapor monitoring at the GLDM site fits this criteria;
continued soil vapor monitoring will only add to the cost of the project without providing data critical
for evaluation of remediation progress. Therefore, we recommend discontinuance of all soil vapor
monitoring at the GLDM site.
3.5. REMEDIATION THVIE-LINE
Although ground water remediation at the GLDM site has not met time-fines stated in the original
FRP, soil remediation at the site has progressed significantly. Figures depicting concentrations of
TPH and benzene at several depth intervals prior to remediation of the site and after initiation of
remediation are included in Attachment B. In most areas, impacted soil has been reduced to very low
concentrations. With the recommended addition of nutrients, impacted soil at the site should reach
acceptable concentrations within the next 12 to 24 months(not including permitting delays).
With the addition of ammonium nitrate (nitrogen source) and hydrogen peroxide(oxygen source),
and the continued in-well aeration of MW-14, ground water samples should show an increase in
microbial growth. With the increase in microbial growth, petroleum hydrocarbons concentrations
should show an overall decrease at the site. [specific time; something about being delayed due to
permitting].
3.6. CONTINGENCY PLAN
If the modifications to the ground water remediation program fail to show significant progress over
a period of 12 months, then the original contingency plan will be implemented. The contingency plan
includes pumping of impacted ground water and above-ground treatment and disposal.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. INSTALLATION AND SAMPLING OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELL
The following procedures will be performed for installation and sampling of the monitoring well:
1. Notify the PHS/EHD 48 hours prior to the commencement of any work.
2. Drill one boring using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with hollow-stem augers. The
boring will be installed within the City of Lodi right-of-way approximately 90 feet south of
MW-9 and advanced to a depth of approximately 73 feet.
