Monitoring Well
A ground water monitoring well (MW-1) was constructed in the soil boring at the
completion of drilling and logging. The ground water well was completed with a
2-inch inside diameter flush threaded PVC casing, with well screen sections perforated
with 0.020-inch slot from 38 to 58 feet below the ground surface. The annular space
between the pine and the wall of the boring was backfilled with Monterey sand to
approximately 1-foot above the top of the perforated section. A 1-foot bentonite plug
s was placed above the sand pack to provide a seal against surface water infiltration.
The well was then backfilled with slurry cement and placed insi-„ a locking Brooks
box.
C. amplina Procedure
Soil samples were collected at the time of drilling for chemical analyses. After
the sample was removed from the boring, the soil sample was screened for organic
vapors with a Photovae TIP photoionization detector (PID) calibrated to 100 ppm
octane. The sample was then immediately placed in a refrigerated environment and
delivered to Canonie Engineers for analytical testing. A chain-of-custody form was
initiated by the geologist on-site and accompanied the sample to the laboratory.
Copies of the the chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix A and the PID
results are shown on the boring log.
D. Water Sam lin Procedure
A water sample was collected from monitoring well MW-1 on August 19, 1985.
The well was sampled with a PVC bailer and the sample was visually inspected for
product layer or sheen. No visable product layer was observed on the bailer. The
well was then developed and purged with the bailer. After approximately five well
volumes had been remove,, a water sample was collected in a 1-liter bottle. The
