4>
• 19 July 1995
AGE-NC-95-0109
To further demonstrate the effectiveness of bioremediation, nucrobial inoculum was added to drums
that contained soil cuttings and purge water from subsurface investigation activities over the past few
years Subsequent sampling and analysis of soil and water samples indicated a significant degradation
of hydrocarbons
Based upon the results of the pilot study and the drum treatment, a full-scale soil inoculation was
initiated by GeoAudrt in August 1994 Approximately 1,200 gallons of moculum were introduced into
the wells on-site A total of rune monitoring wells, one extraction well and six remediation wells were
inoculated Details of the inoculation procedure were reported in the September 1994 Quarterly
Report of GeoAudrt
Between 13 and 15 July 1994, a series of aquifer tests was performed at the site The procedures,
results and conclusions of the aquifer testing were detailed in the September 1994 Quarterly Report
of GeoAudrt
3.0. PROCEDURES
3 1 MONITORING OF MICROBIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES IN GROUND WATER
Ground water samples were collected from MW-6, MW-7, MW-10, MW-I 1, MW-13, MW-14 and
EW-1 on 18 May and MW-6 through MW-14 and EW-1 on 12 June 1995 Samples were also
collected in April 1995,but the VOA vials were broken during transmission to the laboratory Each
sample was collected for analysis of dissolved oxygen, pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and for
mmcrobiological enumeration Table 1 summarizes the results of theses activities through 13 March
1995
Following procedures described in Section 3 4 , samples for microbiological evaluation were collected
in non-preserved 40-m1 VOA vials and transported to Mdwest Laboratory, Inc in Omaha, Nebraska
3 2 SOEL VAPOR MONITORING
Seven remediation wells (VW-1 through VW-7), five monitoring wells, which are presently dry
(MW-1 through MW-5), and MW-14 are connected to a low-pressure blower that provides oxygen
(air) to all wells, except to MW-I and MW-2, on a continuous basis
Oxygen, carbon dioxide and organic vapors were measured once each month using field instruments
However, because of equipment malfunction, no vapor samples were collected in June 1995
. Samples will be collected twice in July 1995 and reported in a subsequent report Percent oxygen
