. 19 July 1995
AGE-NC-95-0109
and carbon dioxide were measured using a GasTech 350 OCOZ analyzer, organic vapors were
measured using a Thermo Environmental 580A photo-ionization detector or a MrcroTip HL-200
Air samples were collected from each monitoring point after the well had been purged for
approximately three to five minutes, using an electric pump Air is then drawn through the field
instrument and the measurement is recorded after stabilization The results of the vapor monitoring
are included in Table 2
3 3 DRILLING AND SAMPLING OF SOIL BORINGS
Four soil borings were drilled at the site on 8 and 9 June 1995 Borings P10, P11, P12 and P13 were
drilled near vapor wells VW-6, VW-5, VW-3 and half-way between VW-1 and VW-2, respectively
The locations of the bonngs are depicted in Figure 2
Each soil boring was drilled using a truck-mounted hollow stem auger drill ng equipped with a split
tube sampler The CME-55 dill ng and two-man crew were supplied by Soils Exploration Services,
. Inc (SES) of Benicia, California Each boring was continuously cored and samples were collected
at or near each lithologic change and from areas where field screening indicated the presence of
orgaric vapors All samples were field screened for the presence of organic vapors using a photo-
ionization detector (PID Thermo Environmental Instruments 580A) All bonngs were drilled to a
depth of 55 feet Bonng logs are included in Appendix A
Samples were collected in clean 2 by 3-inch or 2 by 6-inch brass sleeves The ends of each sleeve
were covered with aluminum or Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape Samples were then
placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to Geochem Environmental
Laboratories(GEL) in San Jose, California A total of 16 soil samples from bonngs P10, PI 1, P 12
and P 13 were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and for aromatic
hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes BTE&X) in accordance with EPA
methods 8015m and 8020, respectively The selection for analysis was based upon field measurements
of organic vapors using the PID
Duplicate samples from each "zone" were also collected for microbe analysis Samples were
transported under chane-of-custody to Midwest Laboratories and analyzed for Anaerobic and Aerobic
bacteria and nucrobial activity Selected soil samples were also transported to Alpha Analytical
Laboratories for analysis of Nitrate, Nitnte, pH and Phosphate
