' Final Remedial Plan - Geweke
2 January 1992
3 . 7 . DETAILED WORK PLAN
3 .7 . 1. LIMITED SOIL-GAS SURVEY
1) Develop a project--comprehensive health and safety plan (HSP)
for the site in accordance with the. Occupational Safety and
' Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities.
2) Notify the SJEHD 72 hours prior to initiating any work.
' 3) Prior to initiation of work, brief all involved personnel with
the contents of the HSP.
' 4) Drive in soil-gas probes at 24 locations in 5-foot grid
(Figure 3) to a depth of approximately 10 feet below ground
surface. Depending on the results the actual number and
locations of the probes might be different than depicted.
5) Evacuate the standing vapor in the probes using an oil-less
vacuum pump for approximately five minutes.
6) Take the organic vapor (OV) reading using a PID and log the
concentrations.
7) Plot and contour the OV concentrations. Determine the maximum
hot spot and drill the first pilot boring for the extraction
' well in that area.
8) Notify the SJEHD about the findings.
1
3 . 7 . 2 . ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT OF VADOSE ZONE CONTAMINATION AND
INSTALLATION OF EXTRACTION WELLS
1) Obtain a permit to install four (4) extraction wells from the
SJEHD.
2) Notify the SJEHD 72 hours prior to initiating any work.
' 3) Prior to initiation of work, brief all involved personnel with
the contents of the HSP.
4) Drill four (4) pilot borings east of the existing monitoring
well MW--4, using truck-mounted hollow stem augers to a depth
of 70 feet each (Figure 4 -- Site Plan) . The location of the
wells is determined by the results of the soil-gas survey (see
' Section 3 . 7. 1) . The proposed arrangement of the pilot borings
is depicted on Figure 4 .
1
