33 Bioremediation Monitoring
In accordance with the Proposed Revised Monitoring and Reporting Program No 94-701,
prepared by GeoAudit (Appendix B), groundwater and soil vapors have been monitored for
biological activity Soil boring drilling is scheduled for November 14, 1994, to monitor
bacteriological progress in the impacted soil Results from the drilling and sampling will be
included in the December 1994 Quarterly Report
3.3.1 Groundwater Monitoring for Biological Activity
Groundwater samples were collected from selected wells to monitor biological activity (see
Appendix B) Samples were collected for the measurement or analysis of dissolved oxygen,
pH,electrical conductivity (EC), total bactena, bacterial composition (number of inoculated
hydrocarbon degraders) and coliform Table 1 summarizes the results of groundwater
monitoring for biological activity through September 19, 1994 No P Aeroginosa have been
encountered in any of the groundwater samples The bacteriological laboratory report is
included in Appendix C (the specific bacterial species encountered are presented in the
report)
3.3 2 Soil Vapor Monitoring
The soil vapor system consists of seven remediation wells (VW-1 through VW-7), five
monitoring wells, which are currently dry (MW-1 through NIW-5) and MW-14 A low-
pressure blower provides oxygen (air) to all wells on the soil vapor system except h1W-1 and
MW-2
During this quarter, soil vapor constituents monitored at the site included oxygen, carbon
dioxide and organic vapors, methane samples are scheduled to be collected during the next
quarter Oxygen, carbon dioxide and organic vapors are measured using field instruments
Percent oxygen and carbon dioxide were measured using a GasTech 350 0,/CO2 Analyzer,
organic vapors were measured using a Thermo Environmental SSOA photo-ionization
detector
After full-scale inoculation, samples were collected from each monitoring point after the well
had been purged for approximately five minutes Each well was purged using an electric
pump Air is then drawn through the field instrument and the measurement is recorded after
stabilization The results of the vapor monitoring are included in Table 2
3.3.3 Soil Sampling
No soil borings or sampling were scheduled during the third quarter of 1994 The initial soil
borings (post full-scale inoculation) are scheduled to be drilled and sampled on November
14, 1994. Results of the sampling will be included in the December 1994 Quarterly Report
Geebpal AYdW 3emo.+ I.t 3
Quane rlyponA 91AS!GQWQMS J
