18 July 2002
AGE-NC Project No 95-0109
Benzene was detected only in the ground water samples collected within HU2 from boring CPT-2,
at concentrations as high as 2 7 µg/l Benzene was not detected in the ground water sample collected
within HU3 from CPT-2, or in any other water samples collected during the investigation The
vertical extent of benzene-impacted ground water has been defined Analytical results of the CPT
grab ground water samples are summarized in Table 1 Historical ground water data 1s presented in
Tables 2 through 5
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
In order to verify the lateral and vertical extent of impacted ground water downgradient of the site,
one ground water monitoring well cluster will be installed on the southern portion of the site near
well MW-8, and one momtonng well cluster will be installed off-site near the location of CPT-3
The assessment activities will consist of the following tasks
• Permitting and pre-field work preparations,
• Monitoring well installation and sampling,-and
. • Report preparation
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below
3 1 PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
AGE will acquire all proper city/county drilling and building permits, and the health and safety plan
will be updated in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for
Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency, 1985) Prior to
mobilization, the boring and monitoring well locations will be clearly marked and a utility clearance
obtained through Underground Service Alert
3 2 MONITORING WELL DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING
AGE proposes to install two ground water monitoring well clusters on- and off-site to verify the
lateral and vertical extent of impacted ground water downgradient of the site Based on the results
of the CPT investigation, AGE proposes a ground water monitoring well cluster consisting of two
monitoring wells in the area of monitoring well MW-8 and one monitoring well cluster consisting
of three wells in the area of boring CPT-3 The proposed well locations are illustrated in Figure 1
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc
r
