15 December 2003
AGE-NC Project No 95-0109
full-scale inoculation with hydrocarbon-consuming bacteria Details of well inoculation can be found
in the GeoAudit-prepared Quarterly Report- September 1994, dated 18 October 1994
In May and September 1998 and January 1999 hydrogen peroxide was added to selected wells to
increase dissolved oxygen concentrations and promote biodegradation The most recent soil borings
were advanced in February 1999,to assess the progress of the in-situ bioremediation Results of the
investigation indicated that 90% of the hydrocarbons impacting soil had been remedlated A
summary of in-situ bioremediation can be found in the AGE-prepared Quarterly Report-March and
June 1999 dated I 1 August 1999
Further background information including the site history, description and results of previous
investigations are detailed in the Problem Assessment Report(PAR) dated 31 July 1991, prepared
by FES Environmental,Inc ,and in the AGE-prepared reports Quarterly Report-March 1996 dated
19 April 1996, Quarterly Report-March and June 1999 dated I 1 August 1999,Cone Penetrometer
Testing Report, dated 19 February 2002 and Quarterly Report - Fourth Quarter 2002, dated
20 January 2003
i 3 0. SCOPE OF WORK
AGE is recommending the performance of an ozone injection well pilot study for the area near the
former dispenser island and monitoring well MW-14 The scope of work will consist of the
following tasks
• Permitting, planning and pre-field work activities,
• Drilling and ozone injection well installation,
• Performance of an 24-week ozone sparge pilot test, including monthly monitoring, and
• Preparation of a report on the results of well installation activities and the in-situ ozone
sparge feasibility study
The CVRWQCB suggested,zn the aforementioned 30 October 2003 letter, that a"bench scale test"
be performed prior to implementation of the pilot study to determine if any site-specific conditions
(e g, metal-fouling of injectors) exist that may "render the pilot study ineffective" Based upon
results from several ozone-injection projects in the San Joaquin County area, it has been AGE's
experience that very little iron fouling has been exhibited, the projects include two in the city of
Stockton(Fire Station No 2 and Chase-Van Buren)and one in the city of Ripon(Shockey and Sons)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
