November 7, 1986 AGS 8691-3
Beacon Service Station #1-502 - Lodi, California
Monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were developed prior to
water sampling by air jetting combined with over pumping. The
pump used was an air-lift submersible type.
GROUND WATER WELL SAMPLING
Following an initial water level measurement, well development,
and ground water recovery to static conditions, the monitoring
wells were sampled using an acetone-washed and distilled water-
rinsed teflon bailer. The bailer was first used to obtain a
sample from the surface of the water in each well prior to
purging. These samples were then examined for hydrocarbon odor,
sheen, emulsion, or floating product. Hydrocarbon odor was noted
in water samples from MW-1 and MW-2, but MW-3 showed no
subjective evidence of contamination. The bailer was cleaned
after each use with acetone and distilled water.
After subjective sampling, the wells were purged of approximately
four well volumes and the formation water was sampled. Samples
for chemical analysis were taken with the bailer after the water
level in the wells rose to static conditions. The water samples
were slowly transferred to laboratory-cleaned glass vials and
sealed with teflon-lined lids, labeled, and immediately placed in
6
AAR1100' GeoSystems
