Station No. 502, 35 N. Cherokee Lane, Lodi , - Interim Remediation Plan <br /> DESCRIPTION OF REMEDIATION SYSTEM <br /> iEVAX will re-instate operation of the existing VES (Figure 1) to remove <br /> hydrocarbon contamination from the soil . The fuel residuals will be <br /> volatilized and extracted from the soil by a high volume vacuum pump <br /> The vapors will be abated prior to discharge into the atmosphere. A <br /> typical remediation system using a catalytic incinerator is shown in <br /> Figure 2 of Appendix A. <br /> Vapor Extraction Wells <br /> Soil vapor extraction will be re-instated from existing onsite vapor <br /> recovery and monitoring wel 1 s VW-5, VW-6, VW-7, VW-9, MW-2 and MW-4. A <br /> vacuum will be applied to each well to volatilize hydrocarbon products in <br />' the soil . The soil gas will flow from the soil through the screened <br /> interval of the monitoring wells. <br /> Underground Piping <br /> The extracted soil gases will be transported through existing underground <br /> pipes connecting each well to a common manifold. At the manifold, the <br /> individual pipes are merged into a single common trunkline destined for <br /> the incinerator. <br /> Manifold Box <br /> The manifold box consists of various valves and sampling ports that <br /> control individual extraction points. The valves located in the manifold <br /> box will be either open or closed, depending on whether or not an <br /> extraction point is to be utilized. This will expedite the remedial <br /> effort and minimize the cost per pound of hydrocarbon abatement. <br /> Water Accumulator <br /> Moisture extracted from the soil must be removed from the air stream <br /> before entering the vacuum pump. The moisture will be accumulated in a <br /> 55-gallon drum which will serve as a water trap upstream of the pump. <br /> The water will be stored in DOT approved drums and then hauled to a <br /> proper disposal facility. <br /> Dilution Valve <br /> An ambient dilution valve will be located on the water accumulator <br /> barrel . This valve will be under negative pressure and will allow for <br /> the introduction of ambient air to reduce the concentration of the <br /> influent to a level that will not overheat the catalyst bed. <br /> - 4 - <br />
