ARCO #6100
Page 2
With the addition of Section 25299.37.1 to the Health and Safety Code, this site
both have been
cannot be issued a closure letter unless the soil, groundwater
tested for MTBE. Therefore, if the chromatograms exist from previous soil
analysis, please have the laboratory evaluate whether MTBE was present in the
sample. In addition, a water sample should be coollecte EPA methods and MTBE,
ted from the on site well and
analyzed for BTEX, TPH as gasoline using app p
riaETRE, TAME, DIPE, and TBA using EPA method 8260.
In addition, the following corrections or explanations should be addressed in an
addendum to the October 12, 1998 report. On page 4 of the report the
conversion factor should be corrected to read °a gallon of gasoline = 6.17
pounds". Also, the estimated TPHG Mass and Gallons TPHG on this page may
need to be revised since Appendix B page 2 of the report requires further
explanation and correction. Page 2 of Appendix B does not show how the
volume and pounds of TPHG was calculated, that was subtracted from the total
pounds of TPHG between 10 and 25 feet because of the UST excavation. An
explanation for the volume and pounds subtracted from that interval because of
the UST excavation should be provided. In addition, the total pounds of TPHG
between 26 and 45 feet does not appear to be correct (40689 + 39970 + 2322 +
474 + 55 = 83510). The total mass of TPHG in pounds and gallons will probably
change with the above required explanation and correction.
ion 48 hours prior to
surement of
th
Please
ater and collection/of a water sample from the on site well so PHS/EHD staff
to
aff
w
may witness the activity.
The results of the depth to water measurement, the results of the water sample
analysis, the on site well log, any evaluation of MTBE in previously analyzed soil
samples by the laboratory chemist, and the above discussed
explanations/corrections to the October 12, 1998 report, should be submitted in
an addendum to that report by August 16, 1999.
If you have any questions contact me at (209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lag rio o, Supervising REHS
Site Mitigation Unit
c: Mark List — CVRWQCB
Joel Coffman — Pinnacle
