Work Plan • •
ARCO Facility No.6100
Tracy,California
Page 4
the bentonite seal to the ground surface. A watertight locking cap will then be installed over the top of the
well casing and a flush-mount traffic-rated vault box installed over the well.
Development and Sam lin
Development of the monitoring well will be performed by the drilling contractor. Development will
consist of surging with a surge block and pumping. Development will continue, to the extent practical,
until the development water runs clean and pH and conductivity measurements stabilize. After well
development and stabilization of the water levels, water levels and the quantity of well volumes
removed from the well will be recorded.
A minimum of 48 hours after the groundwater monitoring well is installed, the well will be purged and
a groundwater sample will be collected. The sample will be collected using a disposable bailer,
transferred to laboratory-supplied glass vials, and placed in an ice-chilled cooler. The sample will
remain chilled until relinquished to a State-certified analytical laboratory. Strict chain-of-custody
procedures will be followed from the time the sample is collected until the time it is relinquished to the
laboratory.
Task 3: Laboratory Analysis
Soil and groundwater samples collected during the investigation will be submitted to a state-approved
analytical laboratory. The samples will be analyzed consistent with the recommendations in the Tri-
regional Board Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluations and Investigations of
Underground Storage Tank Sites.
The soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHG), and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene isomers (BTEX) using U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8015/8020 Modified, and for oxygenates (including Methyl
Tertiary Butyl Ether [MTBE], Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether [ETBE], Diisopropyl Ether [RIPE], Tertiary
Amyl Methyl Ether [TAME], Tertiary Butanol, Tertiary Butyl Alcohol [TBA]), and ethanol, methanol,
1,2-Dichloroethane(1,2-DCA), and EDB using USEPA Method 8260.
Task 4: Waste Management
Soil cuttings generated during the field activities will be containerized in a roll-off bin. The container
will be stored on site pending disposal. A composite sample will be collected from the soil cuttings and
will be analyzed to determine an appropriate disposal method. Wastewater generated will be properly
containerized and hauled to an appropriate disposal facility.
Task 5: Report Preparation
Following receipt of all analytical reports, a report of findings will be prepared. The report will
include but not be limited to analytical tables, a scaled site plan, geologic cross sections, certified
analytical reports, boring logs, and findings and conclusions of the assessment. The report will be
submitted to San Joaquin County PHS/EHD and CRWQCB within three weeks of receipt of all
analytical reports.
