January 7, 1993 Working To Restore Nature
ARCO Station No 760, Lodi, California
Dillard Trucking, Inc of Byron, California, and disposed of at BFI facility in Livermore, L..O/
California
Laboratory Analyses
Selected soil samples from the borings and stockpile were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and as diesel (TPHd) using modified Environmental
Protection Agency(EPA) Method 8015 and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene
i isomers (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020 Samples from borings B-12 through B-14, B-16,
B-17, B-18, and B-20 and the composite sample were also analyzed for total recoverable
petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH) using Standard Method 5520 E&F One sample from
boring B-12 was analyzed for total chromium, lead, and cadmium and soluble lead Samples
were analyzed at Sequoia Analytical in Sacramento, Califorrua Copies of the laboratory
reports and Chain of Custody Records are attached The composite sample was also
analyzed for organic lead
Results of Analyses
. Results of analyses are shown in Table 1 Analytical results indicate TPHg and TPHd were
' not detected in boring B-20, and only 16 parts per million (ppm) TPHd was reported in
boring B-16 at approximately 26 feet below surface grade (bsg). Results of laboratory
analyses indicate gasoline and diesel hydrocarbons were detected in borings B-12, B-14 and
B-18 at concentrations ranging from 320 to 1,600 ppm (TPHg) and 91 to 730 ppm (TPHd)
These concentrations were detected at depths between 26 5 and 36 5 feet bsg and exist in
soil at lateral distances ranging from approximately 22 to 42 feet bsg northeast, south, and ,.
east of the former waste-oil tank Subsequent discussions with Sequoia Analytical personell
indicates that all of the compounds detected by the 8015M test method for TPHd are
actually in the range of kerosene
Gravimetric analysis capable of detecting petroleum hydrocarbons in the carbon range of
C!4 and up was performed on selected soil samples from borings B-12, B-14 and B-18
According to these test results, hydrocarbons within the referenced range were detected in
borings B-12, B-13, and B-20 at concentrations ranging from 51 to 430 ppm
Analytical results of the soil sample from boring B-12 (26 5 feet bsg) indicated total
cadmium was not present above the detection limit, and total chromium and total lead were
detected at concentrations of 9 5 and 10 ppm, respectively Analytical results also indicated r
that the soluble lead concentration in this sample was 0 0062 mg/1
• 0820ccar
38048-7 3
