January 7, 1993 Working To Restore Nature <br /> ARCO Station No 760, Lodi, California <br /> that vapor extraction is a feasible method of remediating soil at the site An effective radius <br /> of influence of 22 feet was estimated for the site <br /> In June and July 1991, RESNA observed removal of three gasoline-storage tanks and <br /> associated product piping and two waste-oil tanks RESNA collected appropriate soil <br /> samples under the tanks and product lines according to the San Joaquin County Public <br /> Health Services, Environmental Health Division, guidelines In addition, a new tank cavity <br /> was excavated and soil samples were collected from the bottom and sidewalls of the new <br /> cavity <br /> Our previous investigation of hydrocarbons in soil beneath the site is described in our <br /> Report No 38048-5, dated April 7, 1992 The investigation indicated that hydrocarbons <br /> were affecting soil beneath the site and additional investigation was necessary <br />` CURRENT WORK <br /> Our field methods and chain of custody protocol are described in an attachment to this <br /> report Copies of the Cham of Custody Records and laboratory reports for soil samples are <br /> . attached Work was conducted according to our Second Addendum to Work Plan No <br /> 38048-7W, dated July 15, 1992 and approved by the San Joaquin Public Health Services, <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> Drilling, Soil Sampling, and Well Construction <br /> Between July 27 and 30, 1992, a geologist from RESNA observed Woodward Drilling <br /> Company of Rio Vista, California, drill seven soil borings onsite (borings B-12, B-13, B-15, <br /> and B-17 through B-19) and two soil borings (B-14 and B-16) in the alley north of the <br /> property boundary The geologist collected soil samples at approximately 5-foot intervals <br /> during drilling. The samples were identified using visual and manual methods and classified <br /> according to the Unified Soil Classification System (Plate 3) Borings were terminated at <br /> depths ranging from 41-1/2 to 59-1/2 feet below grade, ground water was not encountered <br /> during drilling The boring depths and descriptions of the materials encountered are <br /> presented in the Logs of Borings (Plates 4 through 27) Woodward Drilling installed vapor- <br /> extraction wells VW-4 through VW-10 in borings B-12 through B-15, B-17, B-18, and B-20 <br /> Borings B-16 and B-19 were grouted to surface Well construction details are illustrated on <br /> the Logs of Borings <br /> Four soil samples were collected from the drill cuttings and composited into one sample in <br /> the laboratory for analyses Results of analyses were used to evaluate disposal options of <br /> the drill cuttings The drill cuttings were removed from the site on August 26, 1992, by_ <br /> 0820ccar <br /> 38048-7 2 <br />
