Yt ,
r w
Project 02260.04
10 April 1991
Piping and the piping will be connected to the manifold. The manifold
will then be piped to the equipment area. Although much of the system
piping will be installed below grade, the main line piping will be above
grade (Detail ML-1, Figure 2) This above-ground main line pipe has been
approved by the Loci Fire Department. Specifications for the temporary
vapor extraction probes, 4- and 6-inch vapor extraction wells, and the
manifold box are given in Details VEP-1, VW-1 and VW-2, and M-1 of Figure
2, respectively.
WELL INSTALLATION
EVAX will arrange and supervise the installation of two monitoring wells,
one groundwater monitoring well, MW-25, - and one vadose zone monitoring
well, VW-26. The wells will be screened at depth intervals of 40 to 75
feet and 30 to 60 feet below grade, respectively. During drilling
activities, EVAX will sample soils for laboratory analysis and log the
soils encountered in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification
System. EVAX will arrange for transport of the soil samples, under chain
Of custody documentation, to an analytical laboratory.
EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION s
y
The system equipment, including a 500 cubic feet
catalytic incinerator, pumping unit, and accumulator/waterer utknockout
device, will be delivered to the site, installed on an equipment pad, and
connected to the extraction system. Specifications for the
cccumulator/water knockout device are given in Detail EQ-1 of Figure 2.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
3 Catalytic Incinerator Start-up
The vapor extraction system operation will be initiated. The required
source testing will be performed to ensure compliance with permitted
emission conditions. Hydrocarbon concentration as vapor at each probe
and well will be recorded to establish a baseline to gauge the progress
of the remediation.
Operation
The catalytic incinerator will operate 24 hours per day, seven days per
week. The system will be monitored and adjusted twice monthly.
Monitoring will include analyzing the influent hydrocarbon concentrations
to Document the
progress of the remediation and compli-ance_.sampl-i ng
the.__-_exhaust-stream---to-th3 —atmosphere-to ensure that system operation is
--- - a
within permitted emission conditions.
