The well was drilled sometime in 1905 when the railroad was using steam
locomotive to build the rail line from Stockton to Lodi and then on to Sacramento.
2. The concrete foundation was a cistern that was used to feed an above ground
water tank for use in providing water for use in the Steam engines.
3. CCT had two steam engines from 1905 until the early 1940's.
4. Most operations on the CCT were electrified and the steam locomotives.
5. Pictures show this above ground tank in the area of the well in 1910 and 1930,
pictures taken during the early 1940 show the tank removed and a track was built
over the area where the well was.
6. The well was found under an existing track at about 5 feet below the grade of the
track. The well was not used after 1940 for a water source.
7. The well is north and east of the two underground tanks that were removed.
8. The shop and building are hooked up to the city water and sewer. There are no
other wells on the property. There are no septic tanks and the Locomotive
inspection pit that was about 250 feet west of the well was removed as part of the
remediation. There is not equipment washing done at this location.
If I can provide any other information, please let me know. You can contact me at
209-466-6927 or on my cell at 209-471-6252.
Thank you;
Dave Buccolo nn
General Manager
Cc: Dave Solis REH
Lori Duncan SJCEHD
SAFETY PAYS USE IT EVERY DAY
