Environr`ttental N%001
Science &
Engineering,Inc.
A CILCORP Conpany RECEIVED
January 21, 1993 JAN 2 6 1993
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Project 6-92-5400 PERMIT/SERVICES
Cecchini, Cecchini, and Giovannoni
c/o Mr. Ellis Cecchini
1312 A Street
Antioch, California 94509
SUBJECT: Addendum to Stockpile Soil Remediation Workplan, 3437 Newton Road,
Stockton
Dear Mr. Cecchini,
The following is an addendum to a workplan for remediation of stockpiled soil from the
subject site using an ex-situ enhanced bioremediation method. The initial workplan was
issued October 21, 1992. This addendum is in response to comments by the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services dated December 21, 1992. Upon your approval, a copy of
this workplan addendum will be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health
Department.
Soil Sampling Event
There has been only one stockpile sampling event to date. On August 5, 1992,
Environmental Science & Engineering, Inc. (ESE) measured and sampled the stockpile at
the request of the site owner. The purpose of the sampling was to determine current
concentrations of hydrocarbons in the soil in order to identify remedial options.
The procedures used in sampling the stockpiled soil was to collect 32 samples at regular
intervals within the stockpile. A shovel was used to dig into the pile to a minimum of one
foot for the purpose of obtaining a representative sample. Figure A shows the location of
the Thomas Yard and Figure B details the stockpile sampling locations for the August
sampling event. Soil was sampled using clean, two by six inch brass tubes. The samples
tubes were immediately capped with teflon tape and plastic caps, sealed with duct tape,
labeled, and transported cold under chain of custody to a state certified analytical
laboratory. The laboratory composited every four samples into one for the purpose of
analysis. The requested soil analyses were Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (EPH) as
diesel and Total Volatile Hydrocarbons (TVH) as gasoline using the California DOHS
Methods, and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX) using EPA
method 5030/8020. Analyses for title 26 metals and fish bioassay were also performed on
two samples.
4090 Nelson Avenue,Suite J Concord,CA 94520 Phone(510)685-4053 Fax 610)685-5323
