CHEROKEE ROAD, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Cecchini:
The following report documents soil stockpile sampling at the subject site. It contains
background information, sampling procedures, analytical results and recommendations.
Background
The subject site, formerly called the Thomas Yard, had previously been utilized as a
trucking terminal yard and is currently vacant. Two underground tanks, one gasoline and
one diesel, were located at the site. These tanks and associated piping were reportedly
removed in January 1989 by Jim Thorpe Oil Q. Thorpe, 1989). Soil samples collected from
beneath the tank reportedly showed detectable hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel and
petroleum constituents of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX).
Approximately 100 cubic yards of material consisting of tank backfill and native soil were
removed from the former tank area immediately following tank removal activities in January
1989.
The former tank excavation remained open from January 1989 until November 1990. In
November 1990 Environmental Science & Engineering, Inc. (ESE) was retained by the
owner, Delta Truck Sales, to investigate the former underground tank site by drilling and
then removing impacted soil by excavation. In October 1990 ESE drilled soil borings to
define the limits of the impacted soil. Impacted soil was then removed by excavation and
stockpiled on site. A report of the drilling and excavation activities entitled "Report of Soil
Investigation and Overexcavation Around Former Underground Tanks at Thomas Yard,
3437 Newton Road, San Joaquin County, Stockton, California",was issued November 8, 1990
by ESE. ESE recommended closure of the subsurface underground tank area in that report.
Approximately 800 cubic yards of soil was estimated to be stockpiled at the site in that
report. That reported volume was in error.
4090 Nelson Avenue,Suite J Concord,CA 94520 Picone(510)685-4053 Fax(510)685-5323
