11 May 1998 <br /> AGE-NC Protect No 97-0312 <br /> Page 2 of 5 <br /> Five ground water monitoring wells were installed at the site between 1990 and 1996, near the <br /> fueling island area Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples collected during the <br /> installation of ground water monitoring well UST-1 to a depth of 80 feet bsg Low concentrations <br /> of benzene were detected during the installation of UST-4 Petroleum hydrocarbons were not <br /> detected in soil samples collected during the installation of UST-2 or UST-3 Ground water samples <br /> were collected on 22 occasions between September 1990 and December 1997 Impacted ground <br /> water appears to be centered near UST-1 <br /> The well box for UST-1 was found to be in poor condition in 1993, and surface infiltration of water <br /> and fuel had occurred, floating product was encountered in UST-1 Ground water extraction from <br /> UST-1 was performed between July 1993 and August 1995 as interim remediation Approximately <br /> 55 gallons of water and product were extracted every two weeks Previous activities at the site were <br /> described in numerous quarterly reports prepared by Environmental Science & Engineering, Inc <br /> (ESE) between June 1990 and February 1997 <br /> 23 UST REMOVAL <br /> On 18 September 1998, six USTs were removed from the site A total of nine UST samples and <br /> thirteen piping/dispenser samples were collected and analyzed Total petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d)were detected in the samples collected beneath <br /> the USTs at concentrations as high as 2,500 parts per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per <br /> kilogram) and 32,000 ppm, respectively TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in piping/dispenser <br /> samples at concentrations as high as 1,200 ppm. and 16,000 ppm, respectively Excavation of <br /> additional hydrocarbon-impacted soil was performed after removal of the USTs Procedures and <br /> findings were summarized in the UST Removal Report -September 1997 prepared by AGE <br /> 24 PURGE WATER DISPOSAL <br /> On 17 September 1997,purge water stored at the site was disposed in conjunction with rinsate water <br /> related to the UST removals performed at the site Water was transported by Nor Cal Oil to <br /> Amenclean, Inc in Silver Springs, Nevada <br /> 25 SOIL STOCKPILE SAMPLING <br /> Approximately 400 cubic yards of soil were generated during the removal of the USTs at the site <br /> On 22 November 1997,the stockpiled soil was spread to a thickness of approximately three feet On <br /> 24 November 1997, a total of 16 samples were collected from the stockpiled soil and analyzed for <br /> Advanced CeoEn%iron mental,Inc <br />
