1
Delta Truck Sales -2- 18 May 1989
6. Analyses of soils remaining in the excavation should include total lead
as well as total petroleum hydrocarbons. The results of those analyses
should be compared to concentrations of lead in soils unaffected by
waste disposal activities (background soils) in order to determine if
all affected geological materials have been removed from the
impoundment. This information will be necessary in order to "clean
close" the impoundment. If the impoundment is clean closed, no waste
discharge requirements, and no further modifications to the impoundment
will be necessary.
Excavation and disposal of the buried wastes is a significant step towards
cleaning up the environmental effects of past waste disposal practices at this
site. The work proposed in this plan should also provide information which is
valuable to evaluating the effects of waste disposal to this surface
impoundment. Additional work will be needed, however, to determine the impact
of waste disposal activities on ground water quality.
Please inform us of the schedule for excavation of this impoundment so that we
may have the opportunity to observe site cleanup activities, and split samples
as appropriate.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please call me at (916) 361-
57344.. -
ROBERT L.
