The information included in your 9 August 2000
correspondence indicated concentrated brine with a concentration of 14,826 mg/l dissolved solids is
discharged to the wastewater application system. No information on the frequency of regeneration was
provided nor was information on the constituents included in dissolved solids description. Because of
the high concentration of dissolved solids in the regeneration brine, the potential for groundwater
degradation exists.
The Waste Discharge Requirements state that Cherokee Freight Lines shall submit an Annual Report by
30 January 2001. The report shall summarize and graphically present the monitoring data collected for
the year 2000. Cherokee Freight Lines shall prepare a written report which specifically addresses the
discharge of concentrated brine to the wastewater application area. The report shall include data on the
frequency of concentrated brine generation and alternatives to the generation and disposal of the brine.
In addition, the report shall evaluate the potential for groundwater quality degradation in the wastewater
application area.
If you have any questions on this request or the presented information, please telephone me at (916)
255-3116.
TIMOTHY . 0'BRIEN
Waste Discharge to Land Unit
San Joaquin River Watershed
cc: Mike Huggins, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, Stockton
California Environmental Protection Aeency
j Recycled Paper -
