In general, the wastewater treatment plant was clean and well
maintained. A site inspection photograph log is enclosed with this letter. The following observations
were made during the site inspection:
• All truck exterior, and trailer interior wastewater is discharged to the treatment system. Brine
produced in a regenerative water softener is also discharged to the treatment system.
• Wastewater treatment consists of settling, screening, floatation, and pH neutralization. Prior to
discharge to application areas, the wastewater is mixed with irrigation water.
• Wastewater is transported by truck to the mixing and pumping station. The mix ratio between the
wastewater and the fresh irrigation water can be adjusted by computer. Cherokee Freight Lines
agreed to begin reporting the mix ratio in monitoring reports.
• No objectionable odors were noted at the wastewater treatment plant, mixing station, or
application area during the inspection.
As was discussed during the site meeting, the elevated concentrations of dissolved solids in the
wastewater is a concern due to the potential impact to groundwater quality. By 15 August 2000,please
submit manufacturer's information on the regenerative water softener used at the truck wash,
information on the amount of brine generated, and the concentration of dissolved solids in the brine. If
you have any questions on this request or the presented information, please telephone me at (916) 255-
3116.
TIMOTHY R.
