• Always wear a hardhat when working on the drill rig, as equipment may swing
and/or fall.
• Motors used for various activities during well drilling can be loud. The rule of
thumb is if you cannot hear a person talking to you from three feet away at a
normal level, then you should use hearing protection.
• High-pressure water lines need to be used with caution. Never point a high-
pressure line directly at another person.
• Help prevent slip, trip, and fall hazards by maintaining a clean work site.
• Keep hydrated and watch for signs of heat stroke including:
— very dry, hot skin
— no sweating
— strong, fast pulse
— very high temperature (>105°F)
— confused, strange, or angry behavior
— chills,nausea, or dizziness
If any symptoms of heat stroke are noticed, get emergency attention immediately. While
waiting for the ambulance, move the person to a cooler area. If possible, soak the person
in a cool bath. Use a fan or cold packs if available. Keep the person lying down with
feet raised.
D. CHEMICAL HAZARDS
Based on a review of historical records, all material handled during this work is presumed
to be non-hazardous. As noted in the well installation section, all augers and rigs will be
washed down on a daily basis, or anytime the drill rig leaves the CFL monitoring well
installation site, preventing any soil removed during well installation from leaving the
site.
E. EMERGENCY RESPONSE
The drilling contractor will have a cellular phone and first aid kit on hand at all times
during drilling and well development. If required, the nearest emergency room facility is
located at St Joseph's Medical Center of Stockton at the corner of E. Harding Way and N.
California Street in Stockton. The following are directions from the CFL monitoring well
installation site to the hospital:
• Head southeast on Cherokee Road, towards downtown Stockton.
• Drive approximately 2.7 miles southeastward on Cherokee Road, and merge onto
Waterloo Road.
Project Workplan B-2 SA1433
July 30,2004 nAsa01433\gwmwiwp\workp1an.doc
