February 13, 1988 AGS Job No. 2005-P
Delta Truck Sales, Stockton, California
o The excavation must be isolated from rain water until
cleanup is completed, particularly if excavation is
completed during the wet season.
0 A sampling plan must be submitted which addresses the
number of planned samples, sample collection and
preservation methods, and holding times. Plans for
duplicate samples, sample splits, and trip blanks
should be delineated.
o Background uncontaminated concentrations should be
established as a base from which samples containing
naturally occurring compound concentrations can be
distinguished from contaminated samples.
o Analyses should include total petroleum hydrocarbons
using a fused capillary column-equipped gas
chromatograph and flame ionization detector. All
compounds detected in method 8240 should be reported,
including chlorinated hydrocarbons, benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes. Concentration of metals
should be evaluated using Waste Extraction Test (WET)
procedures if and only if the total concentration of
the metal of concern is less than its Total Threshold
Limit Concentration (TTLC) and more than 10 times the
STLC. The chosen methods of analysis should be
identified. Major ions should be analyzed in all
samples. Disposal in other than a Class I waste
facility may require evaluation using the WET
procedures. Ground-water samples should be analyzed
for the same constituents as the waste.
o Soil samples must be collected from the base and side
walls of the excavation to verify cleanup.
o A ground-water monitoring well must be installed within
the areal limits of the excavation. Each soil zone
should be sampled and chemically characterized. Plans
for well construction,• development, and sampling should
be delineated.
o A time schedule for the operations should be specified.
3
