0
February 13, l988 AGS Job No. 2005-P
Delta Truck Sales, Stockton, California
collected from the base of the pit. This sample density shall
allow sufficient evaluation of contaminant concentrations. The
backhoe used to excavate the soil will be directed to excavate
soil from appropriate locations.
Soil samples will be collected by driving laboratory-cleaned
brass sample sleeves, 6 inches in length and 2 . 5 inches in
diameter, into native soil with a hand-operated percussion
sampler. The sampler consists of a brass sleeve mounted in a
threaded stainless steel driving shoe. The sample sleeve will
then be driven into the soil in the backhoe bucket immediately
after it is brought to the ground surface. Sampling procedures
will be similar for samples collected from spoil piles. Samples
will be collected from the material as it is placed in the
respective piles, with collection and analysis of at least one -
sample for every 30 cubic yards of excavated material.
Immediately after the sample is collected, the brass sleeve will
be removed from the sampler andisealed with aluminum foil,
plastic caps, and airtight tape. The sample will then be labeled
and placed in iced storage for transport to the laboratory.
Chain of Custody Records will be initiated in the field by the _
sampler and will accompany the samples to the analytical
9
