1.0 SUMMARY
Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) has conducted a Phase II
Environmental Site Assessment of the Suburban Propane facility located at
23901 South Chrisman Road in Tracy, California. The assessment was
performed for Suburban Propane, Whippany, New Jersey. The subject site
consists of one rectangular parcel of flat land, measuring 1.28 acres, which
includes asphalt-paved parking areas, a dirt and gravel storage area, and one
building. The total building area is approximately 6,000 square feet.
The assessment included the drilling of four soil borings in the area around the
former underground storage tank (UST). These borings were drilled to twenty
feet below ground surface (bgs). Three of the soil borings were subsequently
converted into groundwater monitoring wells. Groundwater was encountered
approximately eight to ten feet bgs.
Analytical tests for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) and
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX) were performed on soil
samples collected from each boring and groundwater samples collected from
each monitoring well. Soil collected from each boring was also screened in the
field for organic vapors using a photo-ionization detector (PID).
Analytical results revealed that concentrations of TPH-G and BTEX in the soil
and groundwater were not detected above the analytical detection limits.
Based on the analytical results, there appears to be no petroleum hydrocarbon
affected soil associated with the former UST. Petroleum-affected soils appear to
have been removed from the area of the former UST. Petroleum hydrocarbons
were not detected during the two groundwater sampling events.
Based on the results of this Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, PSI
recommends no further subsurface investigation at this site. In addition, PSI
recommends that Suburban Propane submit this report to the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Division and request site closure.
Christine Gunther Genn G.
