1 .5 Soil Sampling - DI-WET
Two samples will be submitted for deionized water Waste Extraction Test (DI-WET)
analyses in support of the RI/FS Water Quality Site Assessment. These samples will be
collected adjacent to the location of the sample previously scheduled for DI-WET at SWMU
1/Area 2; the original sample had insufficient volume remaining and thus replacement
samples are needed. At SWMU 27, the selection of a sample for DI-WET analysis will be
based on the Phase III sample(s) with the highest concentrations of metals and OC
pesticides.
2.0 PHASE III FIELD SAMPLING PLAN
A description of the specific field methods to be used is provided in the Final Phase II
Sampling Plan (December 1994). The following field sampling techniques will be used
during the Phase III investigation; the specific section of the Work Plan is provided for
reference:
-Subsurface soil sampling using hollow-stem auger drilling (A.3.6).
-Borehole abandonment (A.3.9).
-Sludge sampling (A.3.7).
-Sediment sampling(A.6.2).
-Groundwater sampling from existing monitoring wells (A.5.7).
-Surveying of soil boring locations (A.7.0).
-Decontamination (A.10.0).
-Field equipment calibration (A.11.0).
-Sample handling and shipment(A.12.0).
-Documentation (A.13.0).
Investigation-derived wastp (IDW) will be handled according to the procedures described in
Section A.14.0 of the Phase II Work Plan, with the following modifications. A single bin
will be used for the containment of all soils generated during the Phase III effort. IDW soil
samples will be collected according to the Phase II Work Plan; the samples will be analyzed
for the following parameters:
-Halogenated VOCs by USEPA Method 8010.
•SVOCs by USEPA Method 8270.
-OC Pesticides by USEPA Method 8080.
• Chlorinated Herbicides by USEPA Method 8150.
•TPH quantified as gas, diesel, and motor oil by modified USEPA Method 8015.
.Metals by USEPA Methods 6010 and 7000 series.
•DI-WET analyses for any pesticides or metals exceeding 10 times the
corresponding STLC.
•TCLP analyses (metals, OC pesticides, VOCs, SVOCs, and chlorinated
herbicides) for any compound exceeding 20 times the TCLP limit.
IDW water samples will not be collected, as the same locations have been previously
sampled and the resulting liquid IDW has met acceptable limits for discharge to the lined
Industrial Waste Ponds.
3.0 PHASE III QUALITY ASSURANCE PROJECT PLAN
Sampling and analytical procedures will be performed in accordance with Appendix B of
the Phase II Work Plan. Modifications to the plan are discussed below.
3
