Box 960001
Stockton, CA 95296
DEFENSE DISTRIBUTION DEPOT SAN JOAQUIN— TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Central Valley
Water Board) staff has received your letter dated 12 December 2009 regarding the status of
private potable well PW005 at 25080 South Banta Road, Tracy, California. This well was
located approximately 4,000 feet down-gradient of the Defense Distribution Depot San
Joaquin facility located in Tracy, California. The Operable Unit 1 Record of Decision for the
facility requires Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to provide bottled water to the owners of
PW005. However, the well was destroyed in 2005 and the replacement well, screened much
deeper, is not contaminated by facility constituents of concern. Central Valley Water Board
staff acknowledges that DLA will continue to sample the replacement well as part of the
continuing monitoring and sampling program, but will no longer provide the well owner with
bottled water.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 464-4675, or by email at
jbrownell@waterboards.ca.gov.
James I.
