In addition, a carbon filter has <br /> been installed on Mr. 'Robertson's well, which, if properly <br /> maintained should remove any VOC contamination. <br /> The primary concerns voiced by Mr. Robertson and other <br /> residents relate to health impacts posed by VOCs in the ground <br /> water. With respect to Mr. Robertson 's concerns regarding the <br /> acute and chronic health risks posed to his children, studies <br /> conducted to date indicate that any potential health risks are <br /> minimal. A risk assessment was conducted for VOC contamination <br /> in the ground water and specifically addressed children as <br /> potential receptors. We would be happy to place Mr. Robertson or <br /> any member of the community in contact with a toxicologist or <br /> medical expert from the Department to discuss their health <br /> concerns. <br /> Mr. Robertson is further concerned by the risks associated <br /> from other exposure routes, such as ingestion of contaminated <br /> crops or drinking from contaminated wells. Crop studies <br /> conducted to date have indicated that there is no uptake of <br /> contamination from the ground water at Tracy. The remedial <br /> investigation has shown only one domestic and three agricultural <br /> wells have been affected. These wells are included as part of <br /> ODRW Tracy' s quarterly monitoring program. In the case of the <br /> domestic well , the residents have also been supplied by DDRW <br /> Tracy with bottled water. <br /> In his letter, Mr. Robertson had additional technical <br /> questions regarding the scope of the investigation. His letter <br /> questioned the emphasis of tracking the contamination in a <br /> northeasterly direction. Based on the direction of ground water <br /> flow and chemical concentrations, evaluation of the northeasterly <br /> plume proved to be the most sound use of resources available. <br /> Aerial photographs mentioned in his letter indicated features <br /> relating to surface water flow that may warrant investigating <br /> further to the east. It should be noted that surface features <br /> are not typically accurate in determining the direction of ground <br /> water flow. The Department suggests that Mr. Robertson consider <br /> raising additional technical issues at the newly formed Technical <br /> Review Committee, which was established as a forum for such <br /> concerns. <br /> During the remedial investigation, numerous interviews were <br /> conducted with past and current personnel at DDRW Tracy. The <br /> Department would be willing to conduct additional interviews with <br /> those persons Mr. Robertson refers to in his letter, if the <br /> information is provided to us. <br />
