Defense Depot Tracy -3- 26 July 1989
analytical results are attached (the metals analysis on the sludge has not been
completed, these results will be transmitted to the discharger in a separate
letter) . The major findings were:
Sludge
Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (EPA 8100) - None detected.
Organochlorine Pesticides (EPA 8080) - chlordane = 32900 g/kg.
ICAP Metals - Not received from laboratory.
Influent
Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (EPA 610) - None detected.
Organochlorine Pesticides (EPA 608)
b-BHC = 0.38 p b
g-BHC ( lindane = 0.22 ppb
p-p' -DDD = 0.24 ppb
p-p' -DDT = 0. 18 ppb
Aromatic Volatile Organics (EPA 602)
toluene = 2900 ppb
ethyl benzene = 30 ppb
total xylenes = 210 ppb
Volatile Organics (EPA 601)
1 ,1 DCE = 1.4 ppb
1,1 DCA = 85 ppb
1 ,2 DCE = 5.4 ppb
1,2 DCA = 1.3 ppb
1,1 ,1 TCA = 420 ppb
TCE = 24 ppb
PCE = 0.9 ppb
COMMENTS:
The domestic sewage treatment plant appears to be well operated and maintained
and in compliance with waste discharge requirements. However, the solids
handling system of the secondary clarifiers is not performing satisfactorily and
could become a problem if flows increase. In addition, the flow meters were
broken. These problems should be corrected.
Based upon the analytical results obtained from liquid and sludge samples from
the industrial ponds, designated levels of contaminants are present within the
ponds. Therefore, the industrial ponds must be retrofitted to meet the
