No. CA4971520834
Facility Description
DDTC is a supply storage facility for the Defense Logistics
Agency, a part of the Department of Defense. DDTC receives,
stores, issues, and transports materials that are common to all
military services. Such materials include, but are not limited
to, food (non-perishable items) , clothing and textiles, medical
supplies, packaged petroleum products, construction supplies,
industrial tools and equipment, and such general supplies as
refrigeration equipment, lighting fixtures, kitchen equipment,
and office supplies. These commodities are purchased by the
Defense Logistics Agency and shipped to DDTC for storage. They
are later issued (shipped) to various military activities (Army,
Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force) , and other specified Federal
agencies located in the western continental United States. DDTC
also ships these items to Army and Air Force activities located
in Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific Overseas area.
Intradepartmental shipments of materials may also involve
receipt, identification, storage, and subsequent disposition of
hazardous waste materials. There is no manufacturing at this
facility and only a limited amount of material surface treatment
such as painting, paint stripping, grit blasting, and other
oxidation (rust) control operations.
The generation of hazardous waste is attributed to laboratory
testing waste, discontinuation of supply items, spillage and
breakage, items exceeding shelf life, 'items returned or forwarded
from other military installations, and those wastes generated
during the normal operation and maintenance of the facility.
Closure Activity
One tank to be removed is an underground 250 gallon carbon steel
tank located at Building 247 . The tank was previously used to
collect laboratory waste consisting of lubricating oils, fuels,
and solvents. The other tank to be removed is located at
warehouse 28. It is a 500 gallon monolithic concrete tank with
an epoxy liner. The tank was previously used to collect
waste, flammable liquids, corrosives, oxidizers and pesticides.
The tank was emptied, cleaned, filled with sand and the openings
plugged with concrete prior to November, 1979.
