• MEMORANDUM
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD - CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routier Road Phone: (916) 361-5600
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098 ATSS: 8-495-5600
TO: Files FROM: Robert Niblack
Engineering Geologist
. e
DATE: 13 July 1987 SIGNATURE:
SUBJECT: DEFENSE DEPOT TRACY, MEETING OF 7 JULY 1987
A ground water contamination study is being conducted at Defense Depot
Tracy (DDT) . At this time Part I of the last phase of the RI/FS is
completed. Two letter reports consisting of the data from this phase of
work have been presented, without interpretation. This meeting was
called by DDT to present the results of the completed work, and discuss
the direction of what should be the final part of the RI/FS.
Richard Kilbury, Hydrogeologist for Woodward-Clyde Consultants (WCC) ,
presented the data resulting from the most recent phase of investigative
work at DDT. The work included sampling 90 soil vapor points,
installing 6 new monitoring wells, and analyzing 62 soil samples from 30
borings.
Major conclusions presented were:
I. Mitigation of soil contamination is not
recommended based on the present data.
II. Ground water contamination extends off-site to the
north of DDT.
Other conclusions are:
1. A vitrified clay pipe which previously carried
wastes to an industrial lagoon was a source of
ground water contamination. According to Jack
Haines, Environmental Engineer at DDT, this line
no longer carries the concentrated wastes it once
did.
2 . Sewage lagoons, now removed, were a source of
ground water contamination in area 2 (see
attachment) .
3. Drum storage area (Area 3) was a source of
contamination due to isolated incidents, spills,
perhaps.
