2. Section 2.2.3.1, Page 2-3: This section states that the results of the
stockpiled soil sampling event in 1998 showed that pesticides and
selenium were present in the soil at DSERTS 72. However, the Report
does not indicate that other metals' and TPH were also present in the
soil, but presumably below their respective cleanup goal. For
consistency, please revise this section to indicate that pesticides and
selenium were present above their respective cleanup goals.
3. Section 2.2.3.2 and Figure 2-2: The text states that the maximum
concentration of total DDX detected during the October 1999 and March
2000 sampling event was 0.299 mg/kg, and the maximum detected dieldrin
concentration was 0.06 mg/kg. However, according to Appendix C and
Figure 2-2, the maximum detected DDX concentration was 0.541 mg/kg and
the maximum detected dieldrin concentration was 0.073 mg/kg. Please,
revise the text to reflect the correct maximum concentrations for DDX
and dieldrin. This comment may affect the exposure point calculations
performed as part of the human health risk assessment. Please, clarify
how the concentrations in Section 3.1.1 were derived.
4 . Table 2-2 and Appendix B: Table 2-2 lists that the maximum DDX
concentration detected in groundwater collected at SB1084 was 0.2 ug/l.
However, according to Appendix B, DDE was detected at 0.4 ug/l and DDT
at 0.7 ug/1 (DDD was not detected) , which adds up to 1.1 ug/1; and
dieldrin was detected at 0.1 ug/1, not at 0.11 ug/l as indicated in the
table (sample ID: SB1084GWOOIDS, Page 95 in Appendix B) . For
consistency, please revise Table 2-2 to be consistent with the data
presented in the appendices. This comment will also affect Section
2 .3.1.
5. Figure 2-1 and Appendix A: The soil sample identification numbers shown
in Figure 2-1 do not match the numbers listed in Appendix A. For
clarity and consistency please include a table listing corresponding
sample numbers or revise Figure 2-1 to refer to the laboratory
identification numbers as follows:
Figure 2-1 ID Appendix A ID Numbers
Numbers
ICFSPS6 SO-007
ICFSPS7 SO-008
ICFSPS4 SO-003
3
