Same comment applies to Section A. 3 .5.2. 1 regarding <br /> soil scrapings. <br /> Page A. 3-7, Section A. 3 .6.0.6: American Society for Testing <br /> and Materials (ASTM) D423 and 424 have been replaced by method <br /> D4318. The Department currently follows EPA's recommendation of <br /> using method D427-92 to measure soil cohesiveness. <br /> Page A. 4-1, Section A. 4 . 0. 0. 1: Soil gas samples may be too <br /> shallow. Multidepth sampling is recommended or at least a second <br /> sample at 10 feet or greater (withdraw and reprobe to avoid cross <br /> contamination) . <br /> Section A. 4 . 0. 0. 2 : Teflon tubing is preferred to <br /> polyethylene which has a stronger tendency to pick up ambient <br /> contaminants during storage. Otherwise shouldn't a pressure correction <br /> be applied to the air volume? What is the rubber tubing <br /> mentioned referring to? <br /> Section A.4. 0. 0. 3 : The procedure for soil gas measurement <br /> should be submitted for approval. <br /> Page A. 5-11, Section A.5.7.0.4 : A 10% change in a pH of 7 <br /> implies ±0.7 pH units. PH units are logarithmic and ±0.7 is too <br /> large a tolerance. <br /> Page A. 10-1, Section A. 10.0.0. 1: If samples will be <br /> taken from the bucket of the backhoe then it should be added to <br /> the list requiring steam cleaning whenever heavy contamination is <br /> encountered or a foreign material is visibly remaining on the <br /> bucket.
