Jim Pinasco
June 21, 1994
Page 7
December 1992 . In addition, the horizontal scale indicating time
with months and year is not consistently labelled. In some cases
the scale show every other month (e.g. , December 1992, February
1993 and April 1993) and in other cases every month is shown with
the same spacing as every other month (e.g. , April 1993, May
1993 , and July 1993, August 1993) .
Recommendations
The monthly precipitation graphs should be corrected to show
the highest precipitation in January 1993. In addition, the
horizontal scales for both the precipitation and ground water
elevation data should be revised to be consistent, either monthly
or every other month.
9. Table 4-3, Summary of Maximum Concentrations of Compounds
Detected in the October 1993 Sampling Round
The maximum cadmium concentration reported in the October
1993 sampling round is 11.2 micrograms per liter (µg/L) from a
sample from LM-127B. The California and Federal MCLs are 10 and
5 µg/L, respectively. However, monitoring well LM-127B is
considered a background well. The Report does not discuss the
high cadmium level in LM-127B, a background well.
Recommendations
The Report should discuss the significance of the highest
reported cadmium concentration that exceeds both State and
Federal MCLS reported in LM-127B, which is supposed to be a
background well.
10. Extent of TCE and PCE Contamination, Section 5. 1. 1.4, page
5-2 and Figure 5-2, Trichloroethene Concentrations and
Potential Source Areas in Upper Horizon Groundwater, October
1993
In the discussion of extent of TCE contamination in the
Upper hydrogeologic horizon, the Report states TCE contamination
at LM37A "does not appear to be connected to the TCE plume to the
north, as demonstrated by the lack of TCE detection in the LM38A
and L442A samples (see Figure 5-2) . " However, neither LM38A nor
LM42A are shown on Figure 5-2. Based on Table 3-4, LM42A is
screened in the Above Upper hydrogeologic horizon and LM38A is
screened in both the Above Upper and Upper hydrogeologic
MSAI
