Jim Pinasco
June 21, 1994
Page 8
horizons. Figure 5-2 shows TCE concentrations in ground water in
the Upper hydrogeologic horizon. Therefore, LM48A does not
belong on Figure 5-2 .
The Report states "contamination around L2417A appears to be
separate from the main TCE plume to the north, as evidenced by
the lack of TCE detection in the samples from wells LM23A and
LM10OA, which are downgradient of LM17A. " However, 1141O0A is not
shown on Figure 5-2 .
Recommendations
The text of the Report should be revised to reference the
wells that are screened in the Upper hydrogeologic horizon to
support the statement that the TCE plume at LM 37A is not
connected to the TCE to the north. In addition, the location of
LM48A and respective TCE concentration should be added to Figure
5-1 (Trichloroethene Concentrations and Potential Source Areas in
Above Upper Horizon Groundwater) . L1438A should not be used to
define the extent of the TCE plume because it is screened in both
the Above Upper and Upper hydrogeologic horizons. LM100A should
be added to Figure 5-2 to support the statement contamination
around LM17A appears to be separate from the main TCE plume to
the north.
11. Extent of TCE and PCE Contamination, Section 5. 1.1. 6, page
5-3
The Report discusses extent of tetrachloroethene (PCE)
contamination in the Upper Horizon and references LMBA. However,
LMBA is screened in the Above Upper hydrogeologic horizon, not
the Upper hydrogeologic horizon.
Recommendations
The discussion of LMBA should be moved to the section of the
Report that discusses PCE contamination in the Above Upper
hydrogeologic horizon, not the Upper hydrogeologic horizon
section.
12 . Extent of TCE and PCE Contamination, Section 5. 1. 1.7, page
5-4 and Figure 5-3 , Trichloroethene (TCE) Concentrations,
October 1993, (Middle Horizon)
MSAI
M563.064/10B
