4
Horizon only.
Mr. Hand said about one year ago they were contacted by
appraisers regarding land uses north of the depot. He said the
appraisers discussed the possibility of the government
purchasing or taking an easement on the land. DDRW said the
government has purchased the property north of DDRW which
consists of 460 . 31 acres . Mr. Hand asked if it was purchased
because of the length of time it would take to clean up the
contamination. DDRW said they purchased the property because
they required a long-term agreement for entry onto the property
and the property owner's wells had to be abandoned which would
take him out of farming operations .
Mr. Hand asked if DDRW had any surface land uses in mind or if
the property was going to remain vacant. DDRW said their first
objective is to remediate the contamination and to maintain
surface use for agriculture.
Mr. Hand asked if there is an option for recreation type uses of
the property, i .e. , parks , golf courses , etc . DDRW said there
are various options , but their main objective is to maintain it
for agricultural use. Mr. Hand said the City of Tracy is always
looking for property for parks and golf courses . DDRW said they
have a number of options , and would look at all of them.
CoE said they need to be aware of the options as soon as
possible so they may be considered in the health based risk
evaluations . DDRW said if the City of Tracy is interested in
the property they should contact Major Joseph Barget, DDRW' s
Real Property Officer, (209 ) 832-9527 .
5
